What is Tummy Tuck?
Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is the surgical removal of excess skin and fat tissue in the abdominal area, repairing the separated abdominal muscles and stretching the remaining skin to achieve a firmer, flatter abdominal appearance. This cosmetic surgery procedure offers an effective solution for correcting sagging and deformities in the abdominal area, especially those caused by pregnancy, excessive weight loss or aging. The operation is a preferred method for improving body contours and increasing self-confidence.
Tummy Tuck Surgery (Abdominoplasty)
Tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) is the process of removing excess skin and fat tissue in the abdominal area, tightening the abdominal muscles and reshaping the remaining skin by stretching. This operation is performed under general anesthesia and takes 2-4 hours on average.
The procedure basically includes the following steps:
- An incision extending from the pubic area to the sides
- Connecting these two incisions with another incision, starting above the belly button and extending to the sides
- Separation of the navel from surrounding tissues
- Lifting the abdominal skin up to the rib cage
- Tightening of separated abdominal muscles by suturing (muscle repair)
- Removal of excess skin and fat tissue
- Stretching the remaining skin and fixing it in its new position
- Placement of the belly button in its new location
