What is Face Implant?
Facial implant is a modern surgical method used to solve various aesthetic and structural problems in the facial area. This procedure can be applied to clarify facial contours, to ensure symmetry or for post-traumatic reconstruction.
Implants made of biocompatible materials such as silicone or porous polyethylene are selected and placed in accordance with the facial anatomy. These implants, which are used especially in the chin corner, chin tip and cheekbones, provide natural and permanent changes in the patient's appearance. With the development of 3D modeling technologies in recent years, personalized implant designs have become possible.
When facial implants are applied for aesthetic purposes, ready-made implants are generally preferred. These implants have shapes according to the area to be applied and their size is determined by the surgeon according to the patient's needs and expectations. Therefore, preoperative consultation and a good and accurate understanding of patient expectations are critical. Since these implants are made of block silicone or porous polyethylene, they can be cut and shaped during surgery.
The design of customized implants is a separate specialty. First, thin-section tomographs of the patient are taken, these are made three-dimensional and processed in special computer programs, and the prosthesis shape is created according to the need and the production stage is started accordingly. These prostheses can be made of titanium or silicone. The cost of these implants is high and they are more frequently used for reconstruction purposes.
Facial Implant Surgery
Facial implant surgery is a surgical procedure performed to correct various anatomical deficiencies in the facial area or to improve aesthetic appearance. During the operation, biocompatible implants, specially selected or designed according to the patient's needs, are placed in specific areas of the face. This surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes 1-3 hours on average. Facial implants for aesthetic purposes are available for the chin tip, chin corner, cheekbones, temporal region and under-eye area. The surgeon makes small incisions in the mouth or through the skin to place the implant, thus minimizing visible scarring. Jaw corner and jaw tip implants can be placed through incisions made inside the mouth or through small incisions made through the skin. The advantage of skin incisions is that postoperative edema is less and there is no feeding problem because there is no incision in the mouth. The remaining scars are minimal and not disturbing. In under-eye implants, the incisions are made under the eyelashes as in lower eyelid blepharoplasty.
Facial implant surgery can be performed for several different purposes:
- Chin corner implants are a good surgical option to achieve a more masculine appearance in men. In women, it is used to provide jaw line definition.
- Chin tip implants are preferred to achieve the golden ratio in patients with a smaller chin than normal and to adjust the forehead-nose-jaw tip line to aesthetic proportions.
- Cheekbone implants (malar implant) are performed for cheek augmentation in patients with low cheek area. These implants are frequently preferred in transgender individuals within the scope of facial feminization surgery.
- Under-eye implants are applied in patients who have hollowness under the eyes and want permanent solutions.
The chin tip projection forms an important part of the facial proportions together with the nose projection when viewed from the profile. Chin tip implants are often recommended to increase the chin tip projection together with rhinoplasty surgeries in patients who want to bring these ratios to the desired dimensions.
Key features:
- Personalized implant selection and planning
- The procedure is performed under general anesthesia
- Planned to leave minimal scarring
- Can be completed in one session
- A natural appearance is aimed to be achieved
- Implants do not need to be replaced over time, they can be used for life
